Skokie, IL
When the old RTU failed which supplied cold air to the coffee shop, we were called to Skokie, IL to install two Oceanaire water-cooled portable plug-in-the-wall air conditioners. One of the units in the back of the coffeeshop was hooked up to the water supply from the mop sink, and the other unit in front was hooked up to a sink near the cash register. Water cooled units are used when an air-cooled portable unit cannot be properly vented which was the case at this location. The water supply to the AC portable unit enters the condenser coil at around 50-55 F and is discharged at 100-105 F. A water valve controls the flow of water in and out of the unit where heat is transferred from the hot refrigerant to the water. The water supplied to the portable cooler is never in contact with the air being cooled. Sometimes our water-cooled portables are confused with evaporative coolers which are totally different.
